Myra Varnado, BS, RN, CWOCN, CFCN, has been a Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse for over 20 years, graduating from Emory University’s Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing Education Center. As the Director of Clinical Services, Ms. Varnado has extensive clinical and managerial experience in a variety of health care delivery sites such as acute care, LTAC, LTC, home health care, out patient wound centers, and industry. She has provided telemedicine consultations to each of those sites as well.Ms. Varnado is an active member of the Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN) and the Association for the Advancement of Wound Care (AAWC). For the past 16 years, she has served on the WOCN Wound Guidelines Task Force and is the primary author of the WOCN Clinical Practice Guideline: “Management of Wounds in Patients with Lower Extremity Neuropathic Disease”. She has published numerous papers on a variety of wound topics including Diabetes Charcot foot management, frostbite, biofilm, telemedicine and tissue based products.Ms. Varnado’s clinical interests are Diabetes related limb conservation and management of traumatic injury wounds. She provides a variety of educational programs including a Wound Certification Prep course and Best Foot Forward! - a course for nurse candidates interested in completing the Certified Foot Care Nurse credential. Additionally, she is a WOC legal nurse consultant and provides Quality Improvement Programs for healthcare agencies on behalf of malpractice insurers.
